Noboru Ueda takes over the chairmanship of IACS

 On 1st July, Noboru Ueda, chairman and president of ClassNK, will take over the chairmanship of the International Association of Classification Societies (IACS) from GL’s Dr Hermann Klein for the next 12 months. This news was released after IACS’ 61st council meeting held at Germanischer Lloyd's (GL) head office in Hamburg.

The meeting numbering 30 representatives of 11 class societies unanimously elected Mr. Noboru Ueda to lead the association to achieve the goals within the tight schedule it designed in the meeting. IACS took some significant steps in order to ensure better functioning classification societies across the globe.  The council revised the time schedule for the harmonization process of the Common Structural rules (CSR) for tank and bulk carriers. The council also decided to give focused attention to provisions for surveyor safety.

IACS has welcomed the Indian Register of Shipping (IRS) as the first new member after the introduction of new membership criteria in October 2009. The IACS Council accepted the full membership application of IRS during the first day of its 61st Council
Meeting in Hamburg. IACS Chairman Dr Hermann J. Klein asked Captain J.C. Anand, Chairman of IRS, to support IACS ongoing efforts towards increasing ship safety and quality: "The membership of IRS in IACS is a good sign for our organization and for our clients. It is a reflection of the quality philosophy and high quality standards imposed by the Indian Register of Shipping." IRS has been "Associated Member" of IACS since 1991. This membership category was abandoned in October 2009 when IACS introduced a single class of membership.

Gulf Craft, the region’s largest and internationally renowned boat manufacturer has been honoured by the Ajman Chamber of Commerce for its contribution to the economic development of Ajman. The award was presented to Gulf Craft by His Highness Sheikh Ammar Bin Humaid Al Nuaimi, Crown Prince of Ajman and Chairman of the Ajman Executive Council in recognition of Gulf Craft’s status as the most prominent exporter in the Emirate.

Exports account for 70% of Gulf Craft’s production. During 2009, Gulf Craft exported its Majesty Yachts range of luxury motor yachts to international markets such as Venezuela, Italy, and Hong Kong, making it the most successful regional yacht builder.

Established in 1982 in Ajman, Gulf Craft has grown midst the region’s fast commercial and industrial development, and has carried a pioneering role as an indigenous company that is capable of producing world class products and exporting them globally from the UAE. Having started out as manufacturers of small pleasure craft, Gulf Craft has produced almost 10,000 boats and yachts with yards in Ajman and Umm Al-Quwain in the UAE and one in the Maldives.

MARINE EXHAUST SYSTEMS HIRES NEW TECHNICAL SALES ENGINEER

In support of its 37 year journey to the top of the industry, Marine Exhaust Systems, Inc. has brought on Michael DeAngelo in the capacity of technical sales/applications engineer.  Company VP Sheila Prieschl made the announcement.  

In his new position, DeAngelo will bolster Marine Exhaust Systems' international market growth, custom project acquisition, government contracts and relations, as well as its megayacht business.  His full range of talents will be utilized, from customer relations and engine room inspections to CAD design and product development.  With a strong background in marine exhaust systems, he previously served as vice president/chief technical officer for DeAngelo Marine Exhaust.

SEA-FIRE INCREASES MIDDLE EAST PRESENCE
