Solas Marine Lanka Ltd. started boat manufacturing from its new facility, with workforce of 60, at Wattala this week. The new firm is a joint venture, worth US$1.5m, of Dubai
based Solas Marine Services and Srilanka’s Board of investment. Managing Director, Prashanth Kamath said that the production processes would be up to the international standards including ISO9001:2009 standards. At the beginning the company will produce only small sail boats and runabouts and later will move on to build crew boats, patrol boats and inter-island boats. The workforce will be expanded as the demand rises, Kamath said.
